One thing about living in Texas is we really don’t have much of a winter. Sure, the people who live here freak out and think it’s unbearably cold whenever the temperature drops below 50 degrees (personally, I think this is the best temperature!), but in all honesty, you really don’t need much in terms of winter wear.
This kind of breaks my heart a little bit because I absolutely love fall fashion: adorable coats, warm scarfs, and and cashmere-lined gloves. *sigh* <3
But unfortunately, it doesn’t really stay cold long enough for it to make sense to spend too much time or money building up your winter wardrobe.
Given this, we definitely do have a few good cold days each year (it’s been in the 30s all day today), so I have found myself looking for new ways to wear pieces I already own without looking totally ridiculous by stepping out into the sleet wearing a sleeveless dress. I have also tried (mostly successfully) to limit my shopping this winter to things I know I can wear through spring and summer as well.
Enter one of my favorite things at the moment: the blazer. There truly are a hundred ways to wear them, and fortunately, this must be the perfect time of year to go blazer-shopping because practically every store you walk into has a great selection of fabulous lightweight blazers in several of colors.
Throwing on a black or other neutral colored blazer is a great way to turn that spring dress or sleeveless top into something you can wear all winter long! Plus, you can really never go wrong with layers. There’s almost nothing I hate more than coming inside after you’ve been outside for a while and your body has adjusted to the crisp chill in the air, only to be assaulted with a blast of heat from the store or restaurant that thinks cold weather means they should crank the heat up to 80. Ugh. But at least if you’re wearing a blazer, you can take it off for a few minutes until you get used to the temperature change.
I also LOVE all the bright colors that I’ve been seeing. Adding a bright orange or fuchsia blazer over an otherwise plain top can completely make over an otherwise boring ensemble.
What do you think about the blazer trend that’s so popular right now? Are you loving the look? Would you dare to wear one of these gorgeous bright colors? Let me know in the comments below!

(I’m wearing a basic cropped blazer in black I found in stores at H&M, $69.00.)
