Grey Out

I’ve been up since 5am this morning (got to go to the operating room all day – SO much better than sitting in class!!), but even running on 4 hours of sleep didn’t stop me from finding time for one of my favorite things – shopping for handbags. =)

Enter the next thing you never even knew you needed: a perfect grey handbag.

What do you think?  Are you lovin’ the grey?

(Speaking of “grey”, I’m looking at the clock and realizing I’m 8 minutes late for my date with Grey’s Anatomy!  Yes, I’m a dorky med student who still indulges in medical drama television and justifies it by convincing myself I’m bound to learn something medical that the writers actually got right every once in a while.)

1. Irving Place Jolie by Kate Spade, $114.00.  2.  Sloan Clutch by Michael by Michael Kors, $174.99.  3. ‘Swing” Double Chain Leather Shoulder Bag by Rebecca Minkoff, $330.00.  4. Large Satchel by Yves Saint Laurent, $1995.00.  5. ‘Lytton – Small” Raffia Clutch by Diane von Furstenberg, $295.00.  6. ‘Secret’ Faux Leather Clutch by French Connection, $118.00.  7. Classic Q Karlie by Marc by Marc Jacobs, $258.00.

Valentine’s Day

Happy Valentine’s day!! I’m off to have real italian pizza from one of my favorite restaurants of all time, with one of my favorite people of all time (my husband!), and I may even enjoy a frozen blueberry mojito without even feeling guilty! – even though it’s a Tuesday and I really should be studying for school. =)

Hope everyone has a fabulous day!

My V-day date night look. =)

Best of Blazers

One thing about living in Texas is we really don’t have much of a winter.  Sure, the people who live here freak out and think it’s unbearably cold whenever the temperature drops below 50 degrees (personally, I think this is the best temperature!), but in all honesty, you really don’t need much in terms of winter wear.

This kind of breaks my heart a little bit because I absolutely love fall fashion: adorable coats, warm scarfs, and and cashmere-lined gloves.  *sigh* <3

But unfortunately, it doesn’t really stay cold long enough for it to make sense to spend too much time or money building up your winter wardrobe.

Given this, we definitely do have a few good cold days each year (it’s been in the 30s all day today), so I have found myself looking for new ways to wear pieces I already own without looking totally ridiculous by stepping out into the sleet wearing a sleeveless dress.  I have also tried (mostly successfully) to limit my shopping this winter to things I know I can wear through spring and summer as well.

Enter one of my favorite things at the moment: the blazer.  There truly are a hundred ways to wear them, and fortunately, this must be the perfect time of year to go blazer-shopping because practically every store you walk into has a great selection of fabulous lightweight blazers in several of colors.

Throwing on a black or other neutral colored blazer is a great way to turn that spring dress or sleeveless top into something you can wear all winter long!  Plus, you can really never go wrong with layers.  There’s almost nothing I hate more than coming inside after you’ve been outside for a while and your body has adjusted to the crisp chill in the air, only to be assaulted with a blast of heat from the store or restaurant that thinks cold weather means they should crank the heat up to 80.  Ugh.  But at least if you’re wearing a blazer, you can take it off for a few minutes until you get used to the temperature change.

I also LOVE all the bright colors that I’ve been seeing.  Adding a bright orange or fuchsia blazer over an otherwise plain top can completely make over an otherwise boring ensemble.

What do you think about the blazer trend that’s so popular right now?  Are you loving the look?  Would you dare to wear one of these gorgeous bright colors?  Let me know in the comments below!

DIY Glitter Pumps

So anyone who sees me on a regular basis (plus you if you keep reading my blog for long enough!) can’t help but notice that I absolutely LOVE all things royal blue.  For some reason, I am always drawn to clothes, shoes, accessories, etc. in that color, and I actively have to stop myself from wanting to buy anything I find just because it’s the perfect shade of blue!

However despite all my searching, I have yet to find the perfect pair of royal blue pumps.  And when I do manage to find the perfect color, either the style is all wrong or they’re horribly uncomfortable.  Then a few weeks ago I was just browsing on pinterest and saw a pair of multi-colored glitter flats a girl had made herself, and I was inspired!  I was going to make my own pair of perfect blue pumps!

So after I made a “test” pair the other day on a pair of $8 pumps I found on clearance (and they turned out great!), I was ready to try the real thing.  I posted the original test pair on Facebook and people kept asking me how I made them, so I figured I would show you all how to do it in a blog post.  =)

Keep reading below to find out how to make your own!

And don’t forget to follow my blog on Bloglovin or “like” my page on Facebook if you like what you see!  Once I reach 100 followers, I will post my first SparklesAndStyle giveaway: a fabulous and SUPER sparkly find from one of my favorite designers of all time.  And you have to be following my blog to be eligible to win!

Bright Flats – Perfect for Spring

So I somehow made it through my exam today.  I woke up at 4am so I could look over some more material in the morning before my 8am test, and my stomach sank a little bit as I drove into campus around 4:45am and realized lots and lots of people were already there.  (I was hoping I would at least get a good parking place being there so early!)  You see, that will be me on a daily basis starting in June!  But right now, I remain thankful that I only rarely have to be anywhere before 8am.

But it was all okay because by 11am I was finished, and headed to get lunch with my friend Emily before we set out on a whirlwind shopping trip to refresh her wardrobe before she heads off to Vegas next week!

So of course I treated myself to a couple of cute things as well.  Maybe you will see them on the blog this week!

Until then, I will share with you my obsession at the moment: bright flats!  I can’t wait for the weather to get a little warmer when it will be perfect to start creating whole outfits around these perfect flats.

For me, I’m totally in love with number 1, the Colette flats by Tory Burch!  The orange and navy color combo is just smokin’! =)
